This is the clearest sign of all, and needs no interpretation. Any standing water on your floors, whether from a burst pipe, appliance failure, or storm intrusion, means extraction should start as soon as possible, since it spreads further and soaks deeper the longer it sits.
2. Active Water Flow With No Clear Reason to Stop
Water actively running from a pipe, fixture, or appliance that should not be flowing is an emergency, not a wait-and-see situation. Shut off the water source if you can, and call right away.
3. A Sudden Drop in Water Pressure
A sudden, unexplained pressure drop across your home can indicate a significant leak somewhere in your system, potentially a slab leak or a major pipe issue you have not yet located visually.
4. An Unexplained Spike in Your Water Bill
If your usage habits have not changed but your bill has jumped noticeably, a hidden leak is a likely explanation. This sign often points to a slow leak that has not yet become visible.
5. Warped, Cupping, or Spongy Flooring
Flooring that has changed shape or feels soft underfoot has likely absorbed water, whether from a recent event or a slower leak you were not aware of. This needs assessment even without a visible active water source.
6. A Persistent Musty Smell
A musty odor that will not go away, even after cleaning, often signals trapped moisture somewhere in your home, sometimes behind a wall or under flooring where you cannot see it directly.
7. Visible Mold Growth
Any visible mold means water has been present long enough for it to colonize, and it also means there is very likely an active or recent water source feeding it that needs to be identified and addressed alongside the mold itself.
